CloudCamp London #2 - Nov 13th, 2008
About CloudCamp London
Nearly 200 Cloud enthusiasts got together in The Crypt, Clerkenwell Green, London for talks and discussion aimed to further Cloud Computing in the UK. The format was nine Lightning Talks - each speaker had just five minutes to deliver their slides before Alexis Richardson of CohesiveFT, organiser and MC for the evening, blocked the projector and and encouraged the audience to clap the present off stage. This fate only befell one presenter - watch the videos to find out who. These were followed by three 30 minute open spaces style discussion tracks, where the direction of Cloud computing was vigorously discussed (in some groups more than others), before the pizzas came out and the networking (aka drinking and eating) took over.
*The Lightning Talks were;*
1. Simon Wardley, Software Services Manager, Canonical UK, “Why standardisation matters”
2. Joe Baguley, Quest CTO Europe, “Virtualisation isn’t always green”
3. Paul Watson, Arjuna, “Federated clouds”
4. Duncan Johnston-Watt, Enigmatec CTO, “Cloud Cover”
5. Phil Dean, Cisco,”What CIOs are saying to Cisco about cloud”
6. Philipp Huber, Zimory, “Pervasive Cloud Computing - What is still missing?”
7. Rhys Jones, RBS, “Clouds are cool, so why aren’t we using them yet?”
8. Wayne Horkan, SUN CTO UK and Ireland “Sun and Clouds: How Sun Microsystems is helping with the global Cloud infrastructure build out.”
9. Neil Hutson, Senior Director, Microsoft Platform Strategy, Microsoft Corp “Head in the clouds, feet on the ground.”
